"Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46 v 10.

The above quote is not  meant to be a sermon or to impose any form of religious preference on anyone. I have chosen this quote for my post today precisely because the theme of its content was stunningly revealed to me some time ago!

When most individuals, particularly those of the Christian and Judeo- Christian Faiths read this they tend to interpret it in a totally different manner from which it was intended. In most cases they see it as a warning from a vengeful God who is reminding them of his power over them; therefore they see it as some kind of threat, uttered to force them into submission to a vengeful and angry God. But, nothing could be further from the truth!

We are so hidden in to our fears and emotional baggage created by the Egocentric mind that we cannot see who we really are. This statement is telling us who we really are!

So, you ask now, what does it mean then if not what we think? Here I am going to write the quote again and highlight specific words.

Be still and know that I am God.  This is an instruction from God himself to tell you how to come to the true knowledge of who you are: a divine being, an eternal being, existing in the veil of flesh which seeks to hide all of this from you. He is trying to tell you that "You and I are one."

Be still: what does it mean to be still, apart from being physically motionless, it means becoming mentally motionless and getting into the silence. God is in the silence. Practices like meditation seeks to find this place of silence within, because it is not without. Our egocentric minds try to tell us that we are separate from him so we seek him on the outside. He is never external to us!

Know: This knowledge of oneness, of understanding that you are Light and Love and Peace and Joy and Divine can only come through stillness, that is stillness of the ego mind, shedding of the flesh, so to speak. It is the stillness, the nothingness, the stripping away of all concerns, desires and expectations that creates the knowing. It is moving away from FEAR into LOVE. Those persons who have had near death experiences come back to tell you that they come to this knowing 'on the other side.'

I Am: This is the name God gave himself when Moses asked "who should I say sent me? So that I Am is God. Strangely enough this I Am is also the pronoun that refers to you; not your body, not your personality but your being, your God self.

God: This term refers to the "one' the only creator and all powerful being who is "all there is!"

The instruction is therefore simple: If you want to find your true self, to know who you really are, you must become still; that is you must go within and peel away the veil of flesh by finding the silence.

The injunction therefore should read: Get into the silence and become aware that you and I are one! In other words, Be still and know that you are god! Know that the seeming separation is only a veil!
